Abstract: This study aims to find out the teaching materials needed by junior high school teachers in overcoming the low quality of Indonesian language learning outcomes at the primary and secondary education levels, especially in producing creative works. The results of this study are used as a basis for developing teaching materials that can encourage students to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas through beautiful, rhythmic language, which has literary values and politeness which is done creatively. The research method used is mixed research methods (mixed method). The research instruments used were interviews and questionnaires. The data sources are productive young poets and teachers who are members of the Cirebon District Middle School Indonesian Language Teacher Conference. The results of this study note that the creative process in writing poetry is: (1) capturing information, both external phenomena or thoughts, self-feelings, internal in nature; (2) processing information until it settles and experiences incubation; (3) produce poetry texts with a stimulus from poetic ideas and poetic knowledge; (4) make edits based on reflection on the fulfillment of the building blocks of poetry so that readers can understand and enjoy them. The creative process in writing poetry needs to be poured into teaching materials needed by teachers to train students in developing students' creative abilities in producing poetry texts. Teaching materials presented digitally can help teachers improve learning efficiency.

Abstract: Effective teaching of competences among autistic learners is anchored on structured identification of abilities for positive adaptation in society. Non-identification of autistic competences weakens categorization of learners into spectrum disorder, traits establishment and barriers management for adaptive skills acquisition implementation. Appropriate demystification of aspects of skill identification that include communication competence, social integration and self-awareness, may assist overcome issues arising from adaptation for accelerated learning and positive societal involvement. This study sought to examine effect of competences identification on autistic learner’s achievement in adaptive skills for productive life. The study was anchored on Weak Central of Coherence Cognitive theory of autism which explains how structured teaching increases learning capacity. Within-subject design was adopted in the study for repeated measurements before and after treatment to the same group. Public primary schools housing autistic learners formed target population where appropriate sample was drawn using purposive sampling for teachers and autistic learner’s whilst stratified random sampling was used for stakeholders. Data was obtained from 17 respondents; 3 teachers, 10 autistic learners and 4 stakeholders. Achievement test obtained data from learners while questionnaires were used to gather data from teachers and stakeholders. Descriptive statistics analyzed questionnaires while two paired T-tests analyzed achievement tests. Findings revealed a mean of 3.33 in Communication competence, 3.58 in self-awareness and a 2.50 mean on social integration. For achievement test, P value of 0.000 (<0.05) indicate an increase in adaptive skills acquisition. Recommendations were; policy orientation on competences identification, Involvement of stakeholders in adaptive skills learning and further research on interventions for adaptive skills.

Abstract: The Learner participation in an instructional process, Environmental Education (EE) included means that the education provided to learners is of relevance, value and supportive of achievement of learning outcomes. The teacher as the manager of the instructional process has the task to promote active learner participation especially among young learners like those at the ECDE level through use of child-friendly approaches. Such approaches should include learner participation in listening to sounds in the environment, interviewing people, observing people in action or examining real things like tools and reports. Empirical literature links such approaches to excursion teaching approach. However, limited empirical literature on the extent and influence of use of the approach in instruction of environmental activities especially among ECDE learners’ limits a discussion on best practices for teaching ECDE learners’ environmental activities. The purpose of the study was therefore, to examine the influence of excursions approach on learner participation in environmental conservation activities. Descriptive survey research design was used. The population of the study comprised of 119 headteachers, all the parents of pre-primary children and 238 pre-primary school teachers. The sample unit was 65 headteachers, 30 parents of pre-primary children and 131 pre-primary teachers of the public pre-primary schools. Data was collected using two research instruments which included questionnaires for pre-primary teachers and the headteachers and interview guides for parents. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze quantitative data using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 25.0. Qualitative data was analyzed thematically. The findings of the study demonstrated that excursions approach influenced on learner participation in environmental conservation activities. The findings of the study may benefit teachers, curriculum developers and policy makers in ensuring that pre-primary learners are taught using instructional approaches that promote learners’ participation in environmental conservation activities. Chi-square results indicated a significant influence of excursions approach on learner participation in environmental conservation activities. The study recommends that the use of excursions approach should be promoted since it improves learner participation.

Abstract: Resources play an important role in the instructional process especially among young learners with the need to develop manipulative skills. In emerging economies such as Kenya where lack of adequate financial resources especially among public institutions limit provision of sufficient resources, teachers have been advised to improvise in order to compliment for the inadequacies. Limited empirical literature on the extent as well as the relationship between use of improvised instructional resources limits a discourse on efficacy of use of such resources especially in the instruction of literacy. The purpose of this study was therefore to establish the relationship between improvised instructional resources and teaching of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) literacy skills. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. A census survey was conducted to collect data from 130 ECDE teachers using questionnaires and classroom observation. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze quantitative data with the aid of SPSS version 25.0 while qualitative data was analyzed thematically. Findings indicated that most learners were aided to interact freely with improvised instructional resources (IIR), the most accessible IIR being visual aids such as charts and flash cards. Regression results (t=10.511, p<0.001) indicated a significant positive relationship between IIR and teaching of literacy skills. The study therefore recommends that ECDE teachers utilize a variety of IIR during teaching and learning of literacy skills to provide multi-sensory learning experiences to the young leaners.
