Abstract: In this article, I employed a qualitative discourse analysis method from a heteroglossic perspective to investigate first-grade Korean American bilingual students’ translanguaging practices in a Korean heritage language (HL) school. Although the instruction was delivered exclusively in Korean in the HL classroom, the students were allowed to use English and translanguage if they needed. The transcripts of audio-recordings of students' spoken language were the main resources for this qualitative study. I first examined the incidence of the students' translanguaging. In performing the analysis of translanguaging function, I adopted Jakobson's [1] six functions of language (directive, expressive, referential, phatic, metalinguistic, and poetic). The findings showed that the function of students' translanguaging was documented in the five following categories: referential, directive, expressive, metalinguistic, and poetic. The close analysis revealed that 14 different subsidiary functions were further discovered under the five functional categories. The functional analysis of the students’ translanguaging performance indicates that their translanguaging was not accidental or deficient, but they were sophisticated, systematic, and purposeful. The findings imply that engaging in translanguaging when communicating even in a monoglossic classroom setting (such as an HL classroom) is considered as a natural phenomenon among bilingual students as they were activating and developing their bilingualism through everyday translanguaging practices. The article provides implications for teachers of bilingual learners.

Abstract: In the context of globalization and internationalization, more and more students have the opportunities to study abroad which has aroused extensive research on the subject of student mobility. By constructing a typology of student mobility, this article sets out to broaden the analytic framework before focusing on a particular phenomenon of student mobility, namely cross-border intra-ethnic student mobility along the borderline in southwest China. Following a review of the historical progression of cross-border ethnic student mobility, the article reveals that the prevailing theory of student mobility has a limited utility when applied to cross-border ethnic student mobility, which is unique in many respects, especially due to the historically strong ethnic ties which laid the foundation for this specific type of student mobility. Using a mixed quantitative and qualitative analysis, a comparison of four different cross-border ethnic schools further illustrates the heterogeneity within cross-border ethnic education. Geographic conditions and resource constraints are the main factors influencing the functional boundaries of ethnic foundations, which further imply various solutions concerning the sustainability and evolving pathways of cross-border ethnic education. Finally, after discussing the limitations of the current research, some suggestions for future research directions are provided, highlighting the need for more reflection and investigation from multilevel perspectives.

Abstract: Life stresses, a decisive role in mental and physical health with strength and especially with the mental injuries and communities of some with you. Identifying student stress is the basic basis for designing and developing pre-existing programs. This study aimed to investigate the impact of educational computer games on academic motivation and stress reduction in high school students. This is applied research with a quasi-experimental design. For this purpose, 80 high school students, From the age of 14 to 17 years, in the 4th district of Shiraz city in the academic year of 2019-20 were assigned into two experimental and control groups via a convenient sampling method. The experimental group received fifteen training sessions of 45 minutes each for two months. The instruments used for this study were Test of Motivation Achievement by Hermans (1977) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) (1988). Data analysis was performed using SPSS software. The results of data analysis showed that computer educational games are effective in motivating (33.9) and lowering stress (37.4) among the students, respectively. Implications for practice. Computer games, due to their attractiveness, simultaneous use of different senses and interaction with the user, provide an attractive and enjoyable environment for the user, so that many users play these types of games spontaneously and with great enthusiasm.
